IT Forecasting for Education

Hybrid IT services and support for the Lynden School District.

About the Lynden Public School District

Lynden School District is a public primary and secondary education school district located in Lynden, Washington. The Lynden School District operates one high school – grades 9-12, one middle school – grades 6-8, three elementary schools – grades K-5, and a parent partnership alternative learning school – grade K-12. Lynden School District’s enrollment is approximately 3000 students.

The Challenge

Preparing IT for the Future of the District

Every organization thrives when they are prepared for what’s to come. The same can be said for Public School Districts.

Lynden Public School District is a 3,800 student district in Northern Washington State. They had internal IT technicians but lacked the expertise, vision, or budget planning to predictably allocate resources.

Along with the lack of proper forecasting, Lynden was experiencing difficulties with their network and voice communications (VoIP).

The Solution

Expert Support and Direction

Initially, ITonDemand came on only as a consultant to help work through existing issues and establish best practices across their network. It became apparent that a long term partnership was going to be a stronger solution.

Our staff takes on ticket escalation and forecasting while their two in-house technicians support day to day operations. Our staff meets with principals and superintendents to project and prepare for the future. This hybrid-service lets LPSD build on ITonDemand’s expertise while keeping their budget significantly reduced.

We need reliable partners who can monitor the backend and keep up with the changes that are happening in technology now. That was the reason that we valued and sought out a partnership with ITonDemand.

Looking Forward

Being Prepared For What's To Come

Server Virtualization

An important part of planning is budgeting and preparing for/mitigating large expenses. Lynden School District has 5 servers that are aging. Old servers at their end-of-life normally would need to be replaced. To maximize Lynden’s investment, ITonDemand is using server virtualization to reuse the server infrastructure. This alone will provide a cost savings of approximately $250,000 by upgrading the existing server infrastructure rather than replacing it.

Standardization

Standardization is a key part of any success. To control vulnerabilities, ITonDemand standardizes systems around Microsoft’s offerings. LPSD bought into this methodology and it has contributed to a healthier and more secure network.
